THE APPRENTICES AT ARMS
We’re very keen to involve all our members, regardless of age. While children must be 16 before they are allowed to participate in a Sealed Knot battle, that’s not to say there isn’t a role for them in the Society.
Teenagers and children alike are very important to us: they bring fresh and interesting new ideas that are welcomed with enthusiasm at all levels. This is their Regiment too; and without them, we have no future.
Some of our adult members play a key role in running a club called The Apprentices at Arms. This is open to anyone in the Society, between the ages of 12 and 16. It allows them to meet new friends and socialise with people their own age. At the same time they get a chance to learn all the basic infantry skills in a safe and controlled environment. So when they turn 16, they are familiar with all the battlefield roles and can make their choice as to which arm of service they will join.
Apprentices get the chance to try out:-
- Sword
- Pike
- Musket
- Standard-bearing
- Drums
They will also learn about other aspects of the Sealed Knot such as:-
- Cannon
- Pyrotechnics
- Cavalry
- Living History
- Crowd entertainment
We try to cover everything and are always open to suggestions. If there is anything that the Apprentices think we’ve not covered; or they want a closer look at, we try and arrange it. We want them to get as much out of the sessions as possible.
